Rembrandt, Miro, Banksy fetch millions at Sotheby's virtual art auction

A self-portrait by Rembrandt sold for 14.v meg pounds (S$25.eight one thousand thousand) at a Sotheby's virtual auction Tuesday (Jul 28) – a record price for a self-portrait by the Dutch chief, the auctioneer's said.

The meridian-selling detail was Miró'due south "Peinture (Femme au chapeau rouge)" (Woman in a Reddish Hat) from 1927, which fetched 22.iii million pounds. Sotheby'southward said the painting, which came to auction for the first fourth dimension since 1966, set the highest sale price in Europe so far this year.

Sotheby'south London said some two-thirds of the works on sale have never been at auction before. Of the residue, almost had been off the market for ii decades.

Five works sold for over US$10 million. That included a statuary sculpture of a female figure by Alberto Giacometti, which fetched ten.7 million pounds, doubling the estimated cost.
